Heavy rains lashed Shimla since Thursday evening, triggering landslides and uprooting of trees at some places in and around the city. The capital received 70mm rain, much of it during the Thursday night.
A major landslide occurred on the Sanjauli-IGMC road, leaving a couple of vehicles buried under the debris near the cancer hospital. Water and muck spilled over to the road and the bus stand, causing inconvenience to the commuters.
“A couple of incidences of uprooting of trees were reported from different parts of the city. If any tree is posing immediate threat to life and property inside the city, we will give the permission for its removal,” said Devi Chand, SDM, Shimla (Rural).
A few minor landslides were reported from the Dhalli-ISBT bypass road. A landslide occurred on the road to Super Specialty Hospital Chamiyana, located on the outskirts of Shimla, as well.
