Rajpura youth arrested for stealing car in Kumarhatti
The Dharampur police arrested a 28-year-old youth from Rajpura for stealing a Swift car parked under the Kumarhatti flyover on February 16. The accused, Sandeep Singh, a resident of Kaloli in Mohali, was taken into custody last evening and produced before the court today.
Solan SP Gaurav Singh said Hans Raj, a resident of Jabli, had lodged a complaint on February 17, reporting his car (HP-15A-9957) stolen from where he had parked it the previous evening. After closing his shop around 7:30 pm, he returned to find his vehicle missing. Failing to locate it, he approached the police, leading to a case being registered under Section 303(2) of the BNS.
Acting swiftly, the police examined CCTV footage from the national highway and identified two suspects. Investigations revealed that Sandeep Singh and his friend Happy were traveling from Rajpura to Solan on a motorcycle when they spotted the parked car. Using a master key, they unlocked the vehicle and drove it towards Rajpura, with Sandeep escorting his friend on the motorcycle to evade police detection. Based on technical inputs, the police tracked down and arrested Sandeep Singh from Rajpura. Authorities are now investigating his past criminal record.
The Solan police have been actively cracking down on inter-state vehicle theft gangs, particularly in areas like Parwanoo and Dharampur. This arrest marks another step in their efforts to curb vehicle theft in the region.
