Rajya Sabha MP Goswami honours families of martyrs
Rajya Sabha MP Indu Goswami today honoured the families of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the 1962 Sino-India War and the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The event, organised by Parveen Sharma, head of the local NGO INSAF, paid tribute to the brave soldiers from Himachal Pradesh, particularly Kangra district, who laid down their lives for the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Goswami emphasised the unparalleled bravery of Indian soldiers in wars before and after Independence. She assured the audience that the Union government was committed to addressing the concerns of ex-servicemen and the families of martyrs. She highlighted the government’s successful implementation of the long-pending One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme and noted that a committee had been formed to resolve any anomalies within the scheme. The report from this committee was under review, and further steps would be taken to ensure the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
MP Goswami also reaffirmed the government’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism and external threats. She praised the Indian defense forces for their readiness to tackle any challenge. She then felicitated the families of the martyrs and urged society to support them in every possible way.
Speaking at the event, Parveen Sharma stated that the sacrifices made by these families must never be forgotten. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting the OROP scheme, which helped remove discrepancies in pension benefits for ex-servicemen.
Among the honoured was Amar Singh, who was just two and a half months old when his father, Parsh Ram, was martyred in the 1962 Indo-China War. Similarly, Jagdish Chander Chauhan recalled losing his father in the 1971 Indo-Pak War when he was only seven. The family of Punnu Ram, another martyr from the 1971 war, shared that he had remained unmarried before making the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Parveen Sharma expressed gratitude to MP Indu Goswami for dedicating her time to meeting and supporting the families of these heroes.
