Land For Med Varsity Being Identified

Land is being identified near the Ner Chowk in Mandi for a medical university. As soon as it is done, the construction of the campus building will be started.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said today that the state government had initiated various innovative and ambitious schemes to double the income of farmers by 2022, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He added that rearing of milch animals could play an important role in boosting the economy of farmers in the state.

He laid the foundation stone of a 50,000-litre capacity milk processing plant of Milkfed at Chakkar in the Balh Vidhan Sabha area of Mandi district to be constructed at a cost of Rs 16.31 crore.

Thakur said, “Milkfed has a capacity of collecting up to one lakh litres of milk, which needs to be increased. In developed countries, the base of the rural economy is animal husbandry and farmers by opting for the best breed of cows can increase their income manifold”.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of a tertiary cancer care centre at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College at the Ner Chowk.

The centre is to come up at a cost of Rs 45 crore and will cater to the health care needs of over 25 lakh population of the area.

He said that the centre would have the latest machinery and equipment such as linear accelerator, HDR Brachytherapy and Planning CT-simulator for the treatment of various kinds of cancer such as head and neck, breast, cervix, lungs and lymphoma.

The Chief Minister said that dedicated chemotherapy, radiotherapy, oncosurgery and palliative care facilities would also be made available in the cancer centre.

“Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College is fast emerging as a premier medical college of the region and the government is committed to strengthening it. Land is being identified near the Ner Chowk for a medical university. As soon as land is identified, the construction of the campus building for the medical university will be started,” he added.

The Chief Minister inaugurated a virtual classroom at Vallabh Government Degree College in Mandi to facilitate students in getting better education.

He also interacted with the teachers and students of Kotli, Dharampur, Lambathach, Thachi, Nihri and Dehar colleges through virtual classrooms. He provided laptops to meritorious students under the Srinivasa Ramanujan Students Digital Yojana.

He handed over laptops to as many as 20 students on the occasion.
