Rectify black spots and remove road encroachments, Una DC to officials
Una Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal on Wednesday called for strict implementation of road safety rules and directed the Sub Divisional Magistrates and police officers to remove all encroachments from roads, and ensure that traffic movement was free from all risks.
Presiding over a meeting of the district-level Road Safety Committee, he said rash and negligent drivers should be punished as per the law.
He directed PWD officers and all five SDMs to identify dark spots in their respective areas, and devise plans to make these spots safe.
Lal said CCTV cameras, signage, crash barriers, parapet lights, speed breakers or reflectors should be installed at dark spots as necessary to avoid accidents. Roads and roadsides should be free of hindrances like hawkers, parked vehicles and illegal encroachments, he added.
The DC said school buses should be inspected by the SDMs and Transport Department officers from time to time, and regular meetings need to be held with private bus operators about speeding, use of pressure horns and haphazard parking, especially while picking up and dropping passengers.
He said the traffic intersection near the Mini Secretariat where roads to Santoshgarh, Amb and Nangal joined was accident prone, and would be modified. Una SDM Vishwa Mohan Dev Chauhan was directed to identify alternative space for daily wage migrant workers who crowd up for work in Una city near the Municipal Committee park and the Mini Secretariat every morning, creating a traffic hazard.
