Red Cross Society empowers women with free sewing training
The District Red Cross Society continues to set benchmarks in humanitarian service, with president Jyoti Bairwa announcing the launch of free sewing training centres across the district. Aimed at empowering women and girls—particularly those from below poverty line (BPL) families and individuals with over 40% physical disabilities—these centres seek to foster self-reliance through skill development.
At a recent meeting with women members, Bairwa praised the organisation’s commitment to serving the poor and the needy. She also shared plans to hold health awareness camps focused on educating women about key health concerns and government welfare schemes. Additionally, the society will launch awareness drives for senior citizens to promote preventive healthcare and improve access to medical services for the elderly.
Highlighting the society’s ongoing efforts, Bairwa said the Kangra District Red Cross Society was already conducting medical camps, distributing mobility aids to the disabled, and providing financial support for critical treatments.
Calling for public support, she emphasised, “Every citizen has a role in uplifting those in need. Our collective efforts can significantly enhance the reach of our initiatives.”
During the meeting, an executive committee was formed. OP Sharma, the secretary, briefed attendees on the Society’s ongoing activities.
