Solan, June 17
Migrants coming to Solan district will have to register themselves afresh at the police station concerned, failing which they will not be permitted to seek any employment.
The District Magistrate has taken the decision to curb unauthorised entry of migrants into the industrial hub of Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh and other industrial clusters. The contractors or agencies, which wish to engage the migrants, will have to register themselves at the Labour Office. Even landlords will have to furnish information about his tenants to the SHO concerned.
The registration of 370 migrants has been done by labour contractors, houseowners, industry managements and other employers on this portal, said Baddi SP Rohit Malpani.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Solan, Vivek Chandel, said these migrants and their employers would have to register themselves on http://bit.ly/solan_labour. Their fresh registration at the police station concerned has also been made mandatory from June 13 and concealing requisite information will attract legal action.
The arrival of migrants was giving rise to the fear of Covid spread, as most of the cases detected since May 20 pertain to those who had arrived here without permission. The cases of industry managements bringing in workers without permission have also come to light and this could trigger community spread of Covid.
Shree Siddi Vinayak Industries based at Nangal village in Nalagarh was sealed on June 12 after its management illegally brought 24 migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in a scrap truck. They were among the 100 workers there but none was medically examined in violation of the laid down the norms.
The police had impounded a bus carrying 40 migrants in the Baddi area on June 10, as the management of the industrial unit had not secured permission to bring these labourers. They also defied all health and safety protocols, said Malpani. He added that all 40 people had been sent to institutional quarantine.
