Shimla, March 3

The teachers appointed by the School Management Committee (SMC), who are on a hunger strike since January 26, have demanded that the state government immediately fulfils its promise of regularising their services before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the Lok Sabha elections.

SMC teachers said that despite being assured multiple times by the state government, the decision regarding the regularisation of their services was yet to be taken.

SMC Teacher Association president Sunil Sharma said, “On February 19, Education Minister Rohit Thakur promised us that the decision regarding our demand will be taken during the Cabinet meeting that was scheduled to take place on March 2. He had also urged us to end our pen-down strike and had said that we can end our hunger strike after the decision will be taken.”

“We cooperated with the government and agreed to end our pen-down strike after which the SMC teachers joined their duties. We were hopeful that the government will take the decision in this Cabinet meeting, however, he said the decision regarding our demands will be taken in the next Cabinet meeting,” he added.

“We are worried that the MCC could be enforced, so the state government should immediately take the decision regarding the regularisation of our services,” Sharma said.
