Relevance of constitutional morality focus of Samvidhan Divas lecture

Prof Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor, Chanakiya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, highlighted the enduring relevance of constitutional morality, federalism and fundamental rights in ensuring justice, liberty and equality for all citizens here today. He was the chief guest at the Samvidhan Divas lecture on “75 Years of the Indian Constitution” held at Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla.

Prof Mustafa, while delivering the keynote address in the hybrid mode, provided an insightful and scholarly exposition on the evolution of the Indian Constitution since its adoption in 1950. He discussed key constitutional milestones, transformative judicial pronouncements and vibrant democratic ethos that continue to shape India’s constitutional journey.

Santosh Kumar Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, highlighted the significance of Samvidhan Divas and the continuing relevance of constitutional literacy in strengthening democratic values.

In her welcome address, Prof Priti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering critical engagement with constitutional principles and commemorating the visionary contributions of its framers. She underscored the importance of reflecting on constitutional developments over the past 75 years, particularly in the context of contemporary legal and social challenges.

Prof Saxena said that the HPNLU continued to uphold its commitment to academic excellence and constitutional values, marking Samvidhan Divas as a moment of reflection, learning and reaffirmation of the principles that guide the nation.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Prof Girjesh Shukla, Registrar. Prof Shukla expressed gratitude to the chief guest, the Vice-Chancellor, faculty members, students and the participants joining the event both online and offline.
