He was speaking at the Independence Day function held yesterday where he hoisted the National Flag and took the salute of the grand parade, led by Inspector Ashish Kaushal.
Agnihotri said, “Himachal faced a serious natural disaster in 2023. To overcome this, the state government distributed disaster-relief package from its limited resources. This year too, we have suffered heavy loss of life and property due to incidents of floods caused by heavy rains and cloudburst for which relief packages are being provided.”
Agnihotri praised the bravery of the state’s soldiers, who have played a significant role in the freedom movement and protecting the nation’s borders.
The minister mentioned the state’s proud legacy, with four Param Vir Chakras, two Ashok Chakras, 10 Mahavir Chakras, and 24 Kirti Chakras awarded to its brave sons. He also highlighted initiatives for the youth, including the e-taxi scheme with 50 per cent subsidy, benefiting 75 individuals so far.
Agnihotri discussed plans to provide pure water to Shimla, including a Rs 587 crore project to bring water from the Sutlej river and a Rs 872 crore project for 24-hour water supply, to be completed by 2028. He also mentioned the installation of a statue of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh at the Ridge, set to be inaugurated soon.
