Religious fervour marks Gurpurab at Hamirpur

The Parkash Purab (Gurpurab) of Guru Nanak Dev was celebrated with pomp and show here today. People from all walks of life visited gurdwara in Ward No 5 to pay obeisance and receive blessings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Parkash Singh, gurdwara head priest, said, “The Sikhs and other communities are celebrating the 555th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. An Akhand Path was organised from early morning today at Gurdwara Singh Sabha which was accompanied by langar (community feast) for devotees.”

Prakash Singh said people started coming to gurdwara from 4 am. He said the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji were followed across religions as these taught love, affection and communal harmony. He said holy teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji included humility, honesty, selflessness and devotion to God. He urged people to imbibe these teachings in their lives, devote themselves in the service of God and help people in distress. He said Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught that all people were equal and be dealt fairly, regardless of their race, caste or status. Guru ji believed that everyone had access to God and a good life could be lived through honesty and care for one another, he added.
