The justification given by SP, Kinnaur, Saju Ram Rana that his children were brought from Delhi during the curfew on a valid permit following the murder of his cousin at Parwanoo has triggered more controversies.
The facts have revealed that the murder took place at Parwanoo in Solan district on March 19 while the four-day inter-state curfew pass was issued on April 13.
The pass was sought on account of death emergency and the question now being raised is that why the curfew pass was obtained after more than three weeks. The murder took place at Parwanoo and the cremation was at Sarkaghat in Mandi district, but the children were brought to Kinnaur after three weeks.
Another fact that has come to light is that the children were brought in a private vehicle (HP 25 A 9007) escorted by driver Heera Kumar and Fubru Chering of the police department. Now with the issue coming in the public domain, the police headquarters have sought a report from the SP.
“A report has been sought from the SP, Kinnaur,” confirmed DGP SR Mardi.
When contacted, the SP said the children could not attend the cremation and ‘puja’ was held after completing the death rituals in which all members of the family were required to be present. The children came for rituals related to the death and no fact had been misinterpreted. It was altogether a different situation as the entire family was mourning, he said.
The issue came to light after a patient, an ex-serviceman referred to Fortis Hospital, was detained at the Chaura barrier in Kinnaur for three hours and was allowed to go only after he produced an e-permit issued by the Deputy Commissioner.
Stating that the kids of the SP were brought from Delhi, local Congress MLA Jagat Singh Negi accused the administration of adopting dual standards for VIPs and the common man.
In the past 29 days since the imposition of the curfew, 1,250 persons have been arrested by the police in 1,183 cases of violation.
