Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Chander Kumar dedicated the newly constructed rest house to farmers, vegetable and fruit growers at the sub market yard at Jassur, near here, on Friday. Built at a cost of Rs 1.35 crore by the State Agriculture Produce Marketing Board, the rest house has the facilities of nine rooms, two VIP sets, a 12-bed dormitory and a canteen.

Inaugurating the rest house facility, the minister said this rest house would provide board and lodging facilities to growers and farmers coming to sub market yard, Jassur, for selling their produce. He said that the Agriculture Department had opened three grain-cum-vegetable mandis at Fatehpur, Gangath and Riyali for the benefit of agriculturists.

“During 2024-25, 4.05 quintals of fruit and vegetables was sold by growers in these mandis. Apart from this, 1,738 farmers have sold 1.35 lakh quintals of paddy and 12,795 quintals of wheat in these mandis at the minimum support price,” he said.

The Agriculture Minister informed that 442 traders are registered with the market Committee, Kangra and 8,444 farmers registered under the National Agricultural Market in Mandi Committee Kangra, who have traded fruits and vegetables worth Rs 6.98 crore through the National Agricultural Market portal. He informed that Kangra, Palampur, Baijnath, Dharamsala and Jasur had been linked to the National Agricultural Market under Market Samiti, Kangra, which are providing attractive and competitive prices to farmers.

He said that agricultural produce mandis were not only the medium of trade for farmers, but an important pillar of their economic security and access to the market. “That is why the state government is constantly trying to strengthen the mandi network,” he added. He said that farmers are the backbone of the economy of the state and the state government was working with unwavering commitment for the empowerment of farmers and growers in the state,
