Shimla, August 8
The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) here today staged a protest on the university campus, demanding that the university administration implement the New Education Police (NEP) in the university.
ABVP (HPU) vice-president Honey Sharma, during the protest, said while the NEP had been implemented across the country, it had not yet been implemented in the state’s educational institutions, which was very unfortunate.
The ABVP also demanded the restoration of the Students Central Association (SCA) elections in the university. Sharma said students were being deprived of their democratic rights due to the abolishment of SCA elections in the university. He said, “In the Executive Council meetings, representatives from every section of the university participate, but no representatives from the student body are included. This lack of representation is resulting in students being deprived of essential facilities.”
The ABVP also called for the appointment of a permanent Vice-Chancellor at the university, and the immediate filling of the over 350 vacant non-teaching positions to ensure the smooth functioning of administrative tasks and timely result declaration . Furthermore, the ABVP demanded that a permanent premises for all departments be established. Sharma said there were many departments in the university that required laboratory facilities, but did not have space for setting up a laboratory.
The ABVP warned the university authorities of launching a mass movement against them if the demands were not met as soon as possible. — TNS
