Reeling under the acute piped water crisis, residents under the banner of ‘Nurpur Sudhar Sabha’ met Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Department (JSD), and submitted a memorandum to him.
Led by sabha’s president Promod Mahajan, the residents demanded restoration of water supply in the town within the next 24 hours. They warned that they would hold a protest before the JSD office if the water supply was not restored by Thursday.
Nurpur town has three water supply schemes. Out of these, two have been disrupted for the past 10 days due to incessant rain and landslides. Initially, the power supply lines to the main Chakki water supply scheme were disrupted due to landslides. Local NGO RB Jan Kalyan Foundation, pradhan and chairperson of Municipal Council, Nurpur, provided water to residents through water tankers.
An official of JSD, Nurpur, said the field staff of the department had restored water supply to the town but it was again disrupted due to landslides, which damaged some pipelines. The falling of a tree disrupted the power supply.
