The Railways has announced six special trains for devotees from Himachal Pradesh’s lower areas intending to participate in the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The first special train will depart from Amb Andaura railway station in Una district on January 17, 2025, and return on January 19. The dates and timetables for the other five trains will be announced soon.
This initiative aims to facilitate thousands of devotees from Himachal Pradesh districts such as Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Mandi and Una, as well as residents from bordering areas of Punjab, in attending the religious event.
Una district, a key rail hub in Himachal, currently operates several services, including the Vande Bharat Express to Delhi, the Nanded Express between Amb Andaura and Indore, the Sabarmati Express, the Jan Shatabdi from Daulatpur Chowk to Delhi, the Himachal Express, and Una-Haridwar services. However, some of these train schedules are likely to be adjusted to accommodate the special Kumbh Mela trains.
As part of these changes, the timetable for train number 19411 Sabarmati-Daulatpur Chowk Daily Express has already been revised. Starting January 1, 2025, this train will leave Sabarmati Junction at 10:05 am for Daulatpur Chowk.
A railway official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that adjustments are being made to ensure the smooth operation of both regular and special trains during this period. The addition of special trains highlights Indian Railways’ commitment to providing seamless travel options for pilgrims heading to one of India’s most significant religious events.
