A meeting of the Road Safety Committee was organised on Thursday under the chairmanship of Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta. The session focused on reviewing ongoing road safety initiatives and strategising ways to improve awareness and reduce road accidents in the district.

DC Khimta directed key departments, including transport, education, police and health, to organise regular road safety awareness camps across the district. He stressed the importance of these programmes not only in public spaces but also within truck unions and educational institutions to reach a wider youth audience and educate them about traffic safety rules.

Addressing drivers, the Deputy Commissioner urged them to wear seat belts and helmets and to adhere to speed limits in order to prevent accidents. He pointed out police reports over the last three months indicated 54 road accidents in the district, resulting in 14 fatalities and 64 injuries.
