Robotic eye testing machine a boon for Ghumarwin locals, says minister
The newly inaugurated robotic eye testing machine at Government Hospital in Ghumarwin has been hailed by residents of Ghumarwin and nearby areas, including Barthin, Jhandutta, Baldwara and Ladraour. The facility, which serves a large population in Bilaspur district, was inaugurated by Rajesh Dharmani, Technical Education Minister.
Dharmani described the machine as a significant advancement for eye care in the region, making Ghumarwin only the second location in Himachal Pradesh to house such technology, after IGMC Shimla. Speaking at the event, he said, “The robotic eye testing machine will provide high-quality diagnostic services, sparing residents from travelling to larger cities for advanced eye tests. This machine ensures faster and more accurate diagnosis of eye diseases, significantly improving healthcare accessibility for the local population.”
The Government Hospital in Ghumarwin caters to over two lakh patients annually, with 15 per cent of them requiring eye care services. Dharmani emphasised the state government’s focus on improving healthcare infrastructure, adding that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has committed to prioritising the health sector and ensuring adequate funding for such initiatives.
Dr Mahesh Jaswal, Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Ghumarwin, termed the installation a boon for the region. “Patients previously had to travel to other institutions for advanced eye testing. The machine will not only offer state-of-the-art care but also save patients’ significant time and money,” he said.
The minister reiterated his commitment to upgrading health facilities in the state, highlighting the government’s aim to provide comprehensive and modern healthcare to all. Dharmani also participated in Lohri celebrations in the town the previous evening, connecting with residents and reaffirming the administration’s dedication to their welfare.
The initiative marks a step forward in improving health services in Himachal Pradesh, addressing long-standing challenges in rural healthcare access and establishing Ghumarwin as a hub for advanced medical care in the region.
