Role of activity-based learning in childhood education discussed

Over 60 primary teachers from Himachal Pradesh visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Gandhinagar as part of an ongoing educational tour to Gujarat. The special session at IIT focused on the role of activity-based learning in early childhood education.

The session was conducted by Prof Manish Jain, who emphasised the importance of engaging young children through methods that promotes long-term success. He demonstrated how subjects like mathematics, social science and science can be taught through simple, everyday activities, making learning both relevant and enjoyable.

In addition, experts from IIT-Gandhinagar trained the teachers in developing innovative teaching materials. The session also saw the participation of teachers from Gujarat, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Following the session, the delegation visited Science City in Ahmedabad, to gain further insights into science and technology, enhancing their subject knowledge and teaching methodologies.

This tour falls under the Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States (STARS) programme, which is being carried out under the guidance of Rajesh Sharma, Director of the Education Department and Samagra Shiksha, Himachal Pradesh. The programme aims to teachers and students exposure to leading educational practices from Indian states and developed countries around the world.

The visiting delegation includes primary education coordinator Dilip Verma, district-level coordinators and other key members.
