Roll back bus fares raise, says Agnihotri

UNA, JULY 20

Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri today condemned the Cabinet decision to hike public transport fares by 25 per cent in the state.

In a press note issued here, he said the decision was a blow to the public, which was already reeling reeling under the pandemic.

Agnihotri said the Union Government had been periodically hiking fuel prices. Now, the people would have to bear a 25-per cent increase in bus fares too.

He said the state government should roll back the decision in public interest. He said the government should consider other options like providing funds to government and private transport agencies to tide over the economic crisis for sometime due to fuel price hike. He added that the Chief Minister should talk to the Union ministers regarding the issue.

Agnihotri said the government was not sensitive towards the unemployed youth who had returned from across the country. People were looking up to the government for waiving electricity, water charges and school fees during this period of crisis, but in vain, he said.

He said an Assembly session should be held at the earliest to discuss the problems being faced by people due to the pandemic. — OC
