In a significant move to support accident victims, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Praveen Chaudhary announced on Tuesday that individuals injured in accidents will receive free medical treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh. Dr Chaudhary made this statement while chairing a district-level review meeting at the CMO’s office, emphasising that all welfare schemes run by the Health Department must be implemented rigorously.
Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, accident victims admitted to a hospital will be eligible for treatment up to Rs 1,50,000 for a period of seven days. Crucially, to avail of this benefit, it is mandatory to report the accident to the police immediately from the scene. Dr Chaudhary explained that injured individuals would be issued an ID, allowing them to register on an online portal. This facility will be accessible in both private and government hospitals registered under the Ayushman scheme.
The CMO also highlighted the “Nayi Disha” scheme, which provides drug testing kits. He urged health centres to utilise these kits effectively to identify individuals struggling with drug addiction, enabling timely counselling and intervention. Furthermore, Dr Chaudhary stressed the importance of analysing available health-related data to take necessary corrective steps promptly and ensure that funds allocated under various programmes are utilised in a timely manner.
The meeting saw the attendance of key health officials, including District Health Officer and District Program Officer Dr Sunil Verma, District Programme Officer Dr Rakesh Thakur, along with all Block Medical Officers, Health Teachers, Health Supervisors and Block Programme Managers.
