Rs 17crore approved for restoration of damaged roads in Rampur area

Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh inspected the restoration work that has been initiated to restore the roads damaged due to natural disasters triggered by torrential rains in Taklech area in Rampur Bushahr in Shimla district and said that the state government has approved around Rs 17 crore for the restoration of damaged roads Rampur sub division.

The minister is on a two-day tour of Rampur during which he also visited Ghanvi area to take stock of the ongoing restoration work of the damaged roads.

The minister said that state government’s priority is to restore the roads that were completely damaged during the monsoon. “A geological study will be conducted as well as a case for mitigation will be prepared to ensure that the roads are strengthened for the long term and to study how we can strengthen the local start-ups and find alternative routes,” he said.

He also advised the people that debris should be dumped in the right places to avoid environmental damage and prevent problems during the rainy season.

Addressing the people in Jhakri, Singh said that the Central government had approved a new bridge at Jhakri costing Rs 135 crore.

He also instructed the officials of the department to ensure that the road restoration work is completed within stipulate time. The minister also expressed concern over the rising drug menace and appealed the local youth to stay away from drugs and to devote their energy into progressive works.

Addressing the people in Ghanvi, he said that for the past two years, Ghanvi area has been suffering heavy damage due to natural disasters triggered by torrential rains. “Our full effort is to ensure that the restoration work progresses with full strength, especially keeping in mind the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board’s power project in Ghanvi. The bridge that was washed-away here will be immediately reconstructed by the Public Works Department.
