Rs 258 crore cleared for sewer project in Palampur: Deputy CM

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said Rs 258 crore would be spent on the sewer project sanctioned for Palampur.

While speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Agnihotri said the tendering process for the project had already been completed, and the sewerage laid in the following wards of the Municipal Corporation — Lohana, Ghuggar Tanda, Aima, Sugar, Ghuggar Khilroo and Bindravan — would be covered under the project.

Besides, in wards 2 and 3, new sewer lines would be re-laid as the old sewerage there, laid by the old Municipal Council, had outlived its life. “This is the biggest development project sanctioned by the Congress government for Palampur,” he added.

He said under the project, not only sewer lines would be laid in the town but the existing water supply system of the town would be augmented by setting up the latest filtration and purification equipment to provide clean water to the residents of Palampur. He said there were 15 wards in the Palampur MC. Under this project, half of the town, which was thickly populated, would get the sewerage in the first phase, while a proposal was made to cover remaining parts of the town in the next phase.

The Deputy CM said Rs 48 crore was being spent for the augmentation and replacement of water supply system in the area of Palampur MC comprising 15 wards by the IPH department.

Earlier, the Deputy CM inaugurated a water reservoir at Aima village constructed at the cost of Rs 1.9 crore under Amrut Mission.
