Rs5.76 cr spent on cow sanctuaries: Kanwar

The state government has spent Rs 5.76 crore on the management of cow sanctuaries and cattle shelter homes. Animal Husbandry Minister Virender Kanwar stated this while presiding over a meeting on the protection of cows at the Thanakalan rest house in Bangana subdivision of the district today.

He said that Rs 500 per animal was being given as financial assistance for the management of 12 cow sanctuaries and 198 cattle shelters housing about 18,000 animals. He added that new shelter homes were being opened in different parts of the state to accommodate the remaining stray cattle.

Kanwar directed the officials concerned to construct two additional sheds for cattle and another for storing fodder at the Thana Khas cow sanctuary in the district. He also told the officials to strengthen the road to the sanctuary.
