Sadiq Nirankari, a student of Him Academy Public School, Vikas Nagar, bagged the first position in state-level declamation competition, which concluded at Government Senior Secondary School, Nirmand, in Shimla district yesterday.

He won the first prize in the Under-19 category, in which students of 12 districts of the state participated. Sadik was accorded a rousing welcome on his arrival at the school here today. Principal Dr Himanshu Sharma said teachers Manoj Kumar, Shailaja Kamal and Manil Rangda helped Sadiq achieve his goal.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
