Salapad-Sunni- Luhri road to be highway: Vikramaditya
Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh laid the foundation stone of the Salapad-Tattapani-Sunni-Luhri link road, being upgraded at a cost of Rs 70 lakh, at Sunni in district Shimla on Saturday. He also inaugurated the new building of Animal Husbandry Hospital, constructed at a cost of Rs 30 lakh. On the occasion, the minister said an amount of about Rs 350-400 crore had been sanctioned for various development works in Shimla Rural Assembly constituency over the last two years.
“Under the fourth phase of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, 1,500 km of additional roads would be constructed in the state, which includes the conversion of unpaved roads into paved ones,” he said.
He further said that a river front would be developed in Sunni, and water sports would also be promoted to boost tourism in the area.
The minister said the Salapad-Tattapani-Sunni-Luhri road was an important road from the security point of view, and therefore this road would be converted into a National Highway. “The talks in this regard are already underway with the Ministry of Road and Highways. The conversion of this road into a National Highway would reduce the distance from Chandigarh to Luhri-Rampur-Kinnaur. Along the NH, local people would get self-employment opportunities,” said the minister.
