Salt production in Mandi mines to restart soon: MP

Local MP Ram Swaroop Sharma has said that salt production in Drang and Gumma mines in the district would be resumed within three months.
“The salt of Gumma and Drang mines is rich in properties. In the initial phase, the production in the two mines will be between 10 tonnes and 12 tonnes and gradually their capacity will be increased to 1,000 tonnes. The salt from these mines will be exported to other states as well as abroad. Since 2014, I have been making efforts to restart these mines and today this dream is being fulfilled,” he said.
Sharma thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur for making this dream come true. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had sanctioned Rs 350 crore for the resumption of the production of salt in these mines. The production was started earlier also but due to technical reasons, the mines were closed,” he added.
“Now, all possible support will be given to Hindustan Salt Limited to restart these mines in the stipulated time. With the commencement of salt production in these mines, the local youth will also get employment opportunities,” he said.
Kamlesh, Chief Managing Director, Hindustan Salt Limited, said that the company has about 133 acres on lease in Gumma and Drang on which salt production would be resumed soon.
