Samagra Shiksha, UNESCO to develop model schools
The state government has roped in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNSECO) to bring about comprehensive reforms in school education.
To chalk out the roadmap, representatives of the UNESCO held a meeting with Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma at the Samagra Shiksha Directorate.
Samagra Shiksha and the UNESCO representatives agreed to pick select schools in the first phase to implement the programmes devised under the collaboration. “These schools will be developed as a complete model school, where work will be done on teacher training, teaching-learning method, 21st century skills, green school and capacity building,” said a Samagra Shiksha spokesperson, adding that the UNESCO and Samagra Shiksha Himachal would prepare a five-year action plan.
Sharma said the UNESCO would soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Samagra Shiksha in the presence of the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Education Minister Rohit Thakur. “This partnership will be long-term and will prove helpful in taking the quality of education in the state to new heights,” he said.
The detailed plan, being prepared with the UNESCO, will include training of teachers in modern teaching techniques, 21st century skills to develop innovation and creativity in students, making sports and co-curricular activities an integral part of education, strengthening of eco clubs and youth clubs, etc.
Sharma said the UNESCO representatives had agreed to make a concrete action plan in this direction. This new initiative is expected to bring about a vast improvement in the quality of education, which will enable students to become globally competitive.
