Eminent artists and facilitators from the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Delhi, recently provided students of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the visual and sculptural dimensions of art through two enriching workshops.
A two-day workshop on “Drawing by Elimination” was led by guest artists Jahnvi Soni and Bandana Agarwal. Drawing inspiration from masters such as Amitava Das and Rabindranath Tagore, the sessions introduced students to innovative techniques of image-making through negative spaces, erased words and creative accidents. The young learners discovered how complexity can emerge from simplicity, gaining a deeper understanding of autonomy, chance and perspective in art.
Equally engaging was a sculpture workshop conducted by Charanjit Singh, lecturer at the Government College of Arts, Chandigarh, which saw enthusiastic participation from 50 students. Singh introduced techniques of terracotta pot-making and clay modelling and guided a collaborative project using plaster of Paris and waste newspapers, resulting in a creative representation of “The Sanawar Landscaping.” The hands-on sessions allowed students to explore diverse materials and channel their imagination into meaningful artistic expressions.
Reflecting on the workshops, Headmaster Himmat Singh Dhillon said, “At Sanawar, we believe in nurturing creativity by offering our students the opportunity to engage with masters of their craft. These workshops not only introduced new techniques but also instilled in our learners the value of imagination, experimentation and expression — skills that go beyond art and enrich life itself.”
