The Chhatra Abhibhawak Sangh (forum of parents of private schoolchildren) has raised an objection to the state government’s decision to withdraw its notification barring private schools from charging any fee except tuition, during the Covid-induced lockdown period. It alleged a nexus between the government and private school managements on the fee issue.
Terming the move as anti-student, the sangh alleged that the government had deliberately issued a vaguely worded notification to aid the managements of private schools.
The government had not mentioned clearly whether private schools could charge fee deferred during the lockdown. However, the school managements were now sending messages asking parents to deposit the full fee, including deferred charges, said sangh convener Vijendra Mehra.
He questioned why students should be charged for the resources that were not utilised by them during the lockdown.
The sangh appealed to the parents not to deposit the full fee. He also sought the intervention of the High Court in this regard.
In April 2016, the High Court had passed historic orders to check “loot” by private schools, but the government had not implemented it till date, said the sangh convener.
