The Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, a religious and cultural organisation, has warned of launching a ‘jail bharo andolan’ from October 5 onwards in case the Municipal Corporation’s court does not order demolition of the unauthorised structure in the mosque in the Sanjauli area in the state’s capital.

The Samiti has also decided to hold statewide protests in all the district headquarters on September 28.

While addressing a press conference, Bharat Bhushan, Convener, Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti said that the protests would be held in a peaceful manner. “With these protests, we want to make the state government aware about the situation within the state as the state government and the administration are taking this matter lightly,” he said. “It doesn’t matter about what the religion is, if someone encroaches on government land for construction, prompt action should be taken by the authorities,” he added.

Bhushan said that over the past few years, the population of people belonging to a particular community has increased in the state which was a matter of concern. “It has been noticed that many unidentified migrants who have come to Himachal Pradesh are trying to spoil the atmosphere and disrupt peace in the state,” he said. “We demand that proper police verification of such people should be conducted to find out their background,” he said.

The Samiti also thanked Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh for highlighting this matter in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly during the monsoon session.
