Shimla, July 10

For cancer patients and their attendants, Sarai Bhawan near cancer hospital on the premises of Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, has come up as a blessing.

21-room facility, including two dormitories, is providing board and lodging facility at reasonable rates to cancer patients visiting the hospital from different parts of the state.

The Sarai Bhawan, called Rotary Ashray, has been built by Shimla Rotary Charitable Trust and Tulsi Ram Bhagirath Ram Memorial Charitable Trust, Chandigarh, exclusively for cancer patients and their attendants.

“Rooms are given only to cancer patients and their attendants on the basis of the hospital slip. We charge Rs 600-800 per room. If someone can’t pay this tariff, he can take a bed in a dormitory for Rs 150,” said Naresh Sood, manager of the facility.

Patients and attendants sound quite happy with the facilities available at the Sarai Bhawan. “Cancer patients need comfortable stay. From the point of view, the sarai is very good,” said Prakash Chand from Bilaspur, who has been staying here with his father. Abhinav, who has been here with his maternal uncle, praised the management for cleanliness.

“It’s very neat and clean throughout the day. Also, it has a parking, which is a rare facility in Shimla,” he said.

Sood said that the Bhawan is generally packed. “It’s close to the hospital, the rooms are very neat and clean and the rates are nominal. So, it’s packed to capacity most of the time,” said Sood.
