A five-day ‘INSPIRE’ camp, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, for schoolchildren commenced here today at Sardar Patel University (SPU), Mandi.
The camp, which is being held from August 6 to 10, aims to ignite a passion for science among young students.
Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Professor Emeritus Chander Shakhar was the chief guest and the key speaker at the inaugural session.
SPU Vice-Chancellor Lalit Kumar Awasthi presided over the event, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Anupama Singh serving as the guest of honour.
Dean (Student Welfare) Rajesh Kumar, as the convener of the programme, formally welcomed the guests.
In his address, Awasthi highlighted the objective of the ‘INSPIRE’ programme.
This year’s camp includes 61 meritorious students from Class X, who have chosen science subjects for their higher secondary education. Over five days, participants will engage with cutting-edge research, participate in hands-on experiments and learn from distinguished scientists of various fields such as physics, chemistry, biology and environmental science.
Talking about the significance of science in understanding the world and driving innovation, the VC urged the participants to fully utilise the camp’s opportunities, engage with mentors, ask questions and embrace challenges.
Awasthi expressed gratitude to those who worked diligently to make the camp possible, commending their dedication to nurturing future scientists.
Deans, faculty members, the registrar, controller of examinations, finance officer, other staff and students of the university were among those present at the inaugural event of the workshop.
