Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu today announced to open office of DSP at Gagret subdivision headquarters besides a community health centre (CHC) at Daulatpur Chowk. He was addressing a public meeting at Bhanjal village of the Gagret Assembly segment where he presided over a ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme where 122 public grievances were heard.

Lashing out at the BJP-led Union government, Sukhu said Agniveer was an anti-youth scheme since those recruited would be discharged after four years of service. He said youth from Himachal Pradesh have been serving the nation by joining the military and paramilitary forces, but the scheme has dented their spirits and prospects. He pointed out that four of the total 21 Param Vir Chakras awarded so far are to the soldiers from Himachal Pradesh.

  • He said Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding schools would be opened in every Assembly segment
  • The CM also announced a grant of Rs 50 lakh for a stadium in Bhanjal village
  • He said talks were on with the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation for setting up an ethanol processing plant in Jeetpur Bahedi village of Gagret segment

The CM said the state had witnessed one of the worst ever disasters during the monsoons, causing a loss of Rs 12,000 crore to public and private assets besides loss of precious lives. He said despite a huge financial crunch, the state government gave a special package of Rs 4,500 crore for relief work, adding that essential services were revived within 48 hours. He said former CM Shanta Kumar, Niti Ayog and the World Bank have appreciated the prompt actions taken by the state government.

Sukhu, however, said the BJP was playing politics with the victims of disaster. He said while the Centre failed to give any special relief package, even the state BJP legislative party did not support the call by the Congress MLAs for passing a resolution in the Assembly, demanding a special package from the Centre.

The CM announced a grant of Rs 50 lakh for the construction of a stadium in Bhanjal village. He said talks were on with the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation for setting up an ethanol processing plant in Jeetpur Bahedi village of Gagret segment at a cost of Rs 175 crore, which will provide employment to local youth.

Earlier, the CM laid the foundation stones of three development works — a mini secretariat building of the SDM office at Gagret at a cost of Rs 19.49 crore, a bridge over Marwari-Joh rivulet at a cost of Rs 11.28 crore and another bridge over the Kuneran Khad on which a sum of Rs 2.49 crore will be spent.
