In his address, Dr Hiteshi informed students about the harmful effects of tobacco on health, society and the environment. He emphasised that tobacco consumption remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease across the world. Calling it a silent killer, he urged students to choose life over tobacco and make healthier choices.

This year’s theme, “We Need Food, Not Tobacco,” was explained in detail, drawing attention to the importance of prioritising nourishment over harmful substances. Dr Hiteshi stressed that the use of tobacco needs to be eliminated starting from our own homes, as the human body needs food and not addictive substances.

He also discussed methods to quit tobacco and made students aware of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. According to the act, smoking in public places is prohibited, advertising tobacco products is banned and individuals below 18 years of age cannot purchase or sell tobacco products.
