Amid the ongoing festive season, the Himachal Pradesh Police have advised residents to stay alert of fake festival offers, discounts, lucky draws and coupons that are being circulated by scammers on social media.

According to the police, there has been a surge in such fake offers on these platforms. People are receiving messages with suspicious links that promise attractive and ‘musn’t miss’ offers. However, these are designed to steal data from the victim’s device, which could lead to big financial losses.

The police have advised the residents to not click these links and to only make online transactions via trusted sources. Residents have also been advised to not circulate such messages or links to ensure that no one is scammed. The police have urged the residents to keep a strong password for cybersecurity and to immediately report any instance of cybercrime on the toll free helpline number 1930 to ensure prompt action.

The HP Police are observing ‘Cyber Security Month’ under which the cops are issuing daily alerts about the various types of cybercrimes and tricks used by scammers, along with measures to ensure safety.
