Shimla, July 25
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, school students will be inducted as volunteers in the State Red Cross Society. The students from Classes IX to XII will be trained as first-aid providers and involved in various activities organised by the Red Cross. This was stated by Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil while chairing a meeting of the Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Management Committee here today.
He said the students would be trained under the Junior Red Cross to provide first-aid facilities, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). For this, training camps will be organised across the state and certificates will be given to the students. “The college and university students will also be connected with the campaign through the Youth Red Cross,” Shandil said.
The minister added that the State Red Cross Society had released Rs 50 lakh for the construction of a Sarai Bhawan near PGI Satellite Centre, Una. Besides, a similar facility has been constructed near the Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, Kangra.
Shandil, who is also the chairman of the committee, appreciated various works being done by the Red Cross Society at the state, district and subdivisional levels.
