Scrap power demand charges: Hoteliers to govt

Mandi, September 24 Gajender Thakur, a tourism stakeholder in Manali and president of the Federation of Himachal Hotels and Restaurants, has expressed concern over electricity demand charges imposed on hoteliers. Thakur emphasised that the current demand charges, based on sanctioned loads, contribute significantly to their rising expenses. He argued that abolishing these charges would help level the playing field and allow local businesses to compete effectively with their counterparts in the neighbouring states. Thakur highlighted the importance of implementing energy efficiency programmes in hotels. Such initiatives could significantly reduce overall electricity consumption and operational costs. — TNS
