In a significant step towards promoting ecological sustainability, Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU) organised a tree plantation campaign under its flagship environmental initiative, ‘Green Ghandal’. The drive was led by the Young Red Cross (YRC) unit of HPNLU in collaboration with the District Red Cross Society, Shimla branch and the Gram Panchayat of Ghandal village.
As part of the campaign, a total of 80 saplings were planted, including 25 deodar, 40 ban and 15 banni — all native species known to support the local ecosystem. The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and local community stakeholders.
The event began with the ceremonial planting of saplings by Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Preeti Saxena, Registrar Prof (Dr) SS Jaswal and Dean of Student Welfare Dr Sachin Sharma. In her address, Prof Saxena reaffirmed the university’s commitment to environmental conservation and commended the collective efforts under the Green Ghandal initiative. “HPNLU remains dedicated to working hand in hand with local communities to foster a cleaner and greener future. The selected species will not only enhance biodiversity but also contribute to long-term ecological balance,” she said.
The HPNLU Young Red Cross team extended heartfelt gratitude to the local Panchayat and the Forest Department, Dhami, for their invaluable support in providing land and assistance for the plantation activity.
This initiative reflects HPNLU’s broader vision of integrating environmental consciousness into academic and community life, setting a positive example for sustainable development in the region.
