Seminar on climate change at HP varsity
Prof Rajinder Verma, Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, attended a national seminar on ‘Climate Change and Sustainable Development’ organised by the university’s five-year law programme. Addressing the gathering, Prof Verma said solving the problem of climate change requires the collective effort of every individual. He stated organisations such as the United Nations and various governments cannot tackle the problem without the involvement of the public. “Environmental laws will only be effective if the masses truly understand the gravity of this problem,” he added.
Over 70 research papers related to climate change and sustainable development were presented. Researchers and environmental scholars from across the country engaged in discussions on environmental problems and proposed potential solutions.
Prof Joginder Singh Dhiman, Dean of Planning and Teachers’ Matters at Himachal Pradesh University, highlighted the university’s commitment to environmental concerns. He said the university is addressing these problems in its curriculum and is also exploring how smart technology can aid in environmental conservation.
Prof Aditi Sharma from Punjab University’s Regional Centre, spoke about the international, political and community aspects of climate change. She stressed the importance of community cooperation in tackling climate change.
Prof Shiv Kumar Dogra, Director of the Five-Year Law Programme Institute at Himachal Pradesh University, concluded the seminar by thanking all the participants and scholars. He said the primary goal of the seminar was to foster in-depth discussions on climate change and sustainable development, aiming to ensure a brighter future for the next generation. — TNS
