Following a nation-wide call by the All-India Committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the state unit of the SFI staged a protest on the campus of Himachal Pradesh University.

The protesters demanded a thorough investigation into every aspect of the Pahalgam attack, and immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the incident.

SFI state joint secretary Upender extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

He also condemned the rising incidents of discrimination, threats and harassment being faced by Kashmiri students in the aftermath of the attack. “Labelling Kashmiri students as ‘terrorists’ and evicting them from hostels and their residences is dangerous for the democratic fabric and unity of the nation,” he said.

He also warned against attempts by several groups to communalise the issue. Asserting that terrorism had no religion, he urged all students to remain united and not fall prey to divisive narratives.

He said that the fight against terrorism must include every section of society. “The fact that armed terrorists were able to infiltrate the country and take innocent lives raises serious questions about the preparedness of the Ministry of Defence.”

“The Defence Ministry should take strict action in this matter and take immediate steps to restore peace in J&K,” he added.

Upender further stated that the HP state committee of SFI stands in solidarity with the people of the country during this time of sorrow and urged the Central Government to ensure safety of both tourists and locals in conflict-affected regions.
