The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) unit of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) today staged a demonstration on the university campus, opposing the direct entry of students in P.hD courses without examinations.
The SFI accused the HPU authorities of violating the UGC guidelines to give admission to some “favourites” in P.hD when qualifying the JRF was mandatory for the same. Wards of university officers on high posts have been given direct entry into PhD, said SFI campus president Rocky.
The activists said despite the fact that regular classes had been started in the university, the 24-hour library had been opened only for 12 hours from 9 am to 9 pm. The protesters demanded that it be opened for 24 hours so that those students who are unable to study during the day could study there at night.
The activisits warned the university authorities and said a strategy for an “aggressive” agitation would be launched in case their demands were not fulfilled.
