In alignment with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s call to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant, Kewal Pathania, MLA of Shahpur, along with several government officials, has voluntarily given up the electricity subsidy. A form to this effect has been submitted to the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) at Shahpur.

Pathania appealed to all well-off individuals in the state to follow suit, urging them to forgo their electricity subsidy to support the state’s financial stability. He emphasised that this initiative was part of a broader effort to make Himachal self-sufficient, echoing the CM’s vision of leading by example.

“Everyone should come forward in this hour of need to strengthen the cause initiated by our Chief Minister,” Pathania said. He encouraged people to visit the HPSEB online portal, call 1100 or 1912, or visit their local electricity sub-division to give up the subsidy.

Pathania highlighted the government’s commitment to the state’s prosperity, citing the Rs 2,631 crore additional revenue earned through the revised excise policy in the past year. The government is also focusing on strengthening the rural economy and providing minimum support prices (MSP) for crops and milk, including wheat, maize and milk.

As part of its support for natural farming, the government has also launched products like ‘Him Bhog-Him Makki Atta’ prepared from organic maize. A total of 399 metric tonnes of maize has been purchased from 1,508 farmers, with Rs 1 crore 20 lakh already credited to their bank accounts.

Furthermore, the MSP for cow milk has been raised from Rs 32 to Rs 45 per litre, while buffalo milk has seen a rise from Rs 47 to Rs 55 per litre.
