Shia community carries out procession on Muharram

Shimla, July 17

The Shia community here today carried out a procession to remember the sacrifices of Imam Husayn ibn Ali, grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad on the occasion of Muharram.

People of the Shia community took part in the procession that was carried out from Krishna Nagar to Boileauganj.

On the occasion, Maulana Sheikh Kazim Rahim said Imam Husayn had sacrificed his life around 1,400 years ago and Muslims around the world have pledged to walk on the path shown by him.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and it is one of the four sacred months of the year when warfare is forbidden. Imam Husayn was killed, along with most of his relatives in the Battle of Karbala.
