Shillai takes a leap towards urbanisation
Shillai in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district has been officially declared as the first nagar panchayat in this Assembly constituency. The formation of the nagar panchayat was approved through an order issued by the Secretary of Urban Development, Ritesh Chauhan.
The decision integrates parts of Shillai, Naya and the Bandli gram panchayats to establish the new urban local body.
Harsh Wardhan Chauhan, MLA from Shillai and Minister for Industries, Labour and Employment and Parliamentary Affairs in the Himachal Pradesh Government, extended congratulations to the residents of the constituency. He emphasised that the formation of the nagar panchayat marked a significant milestone in local governance, bringing more organised and efficient administrative structures at the grassroots level.
Chauhan highlighted various benefits associated with the new status. The nagar panchayat will facilitate the implementation of government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna (PMAY) (Urban), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and Mukhya Mantri Shahri Ajeevika Guarantee Yojna (MMSAGY) more effectively and swiftly. It will also enable better management and development of essential infrastructure such as roads, electricity, water supply, sewerage systems and solid waste management.
The creation of the nagar panchayat is expected to boost local revenue through taxes and other sources, which can be reinvested in development projects. Furthermore, it will promote local trade and business activities, providing a significant push to economic growth.
The new urban set-up is projected to generate employment opportunities in sectors such as construction, sanitation and other public services. Small-scale industries and local businesses are also likely to benefit from the improved infrastructure and governance framework.
Residents of Shillai can anticipate significant improvements in healthcare, education, sanitation and transportation services. The new administrative framework ensures a more direct and participative role for residentsin decision-making and problem-solving, enabling representatives to tailor policies to local needs effectively.
With the establishment of the nagar panchayat, Shillai is poised to take a step toward urbanisation. Enhanced facilities will pave the way for increased tourism and business opportunities, contributing to the overall development of the region.
Minister Chauhan reiterated his commitment to making Shillai Assembly a prosperous and developed constituency. “The formation of the Shillai nagar panchayat is not just a governance upgrade but a step towards improving the quality of life for residents and setting a strong foundation for progress,” he stated.
