Shimla admn tightens noose around illegal food vendors

A meeting of the District-Level Advisory Committee was chaired by Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap in accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. During the meeting, he emphasised that strict legal action would be taken against individuals selling food and beverages without the necessary permission.

Kashyap highlighted the need for increased surveillance on vendors selling food and beverages along the national highway in the district. He stressed that products posing a risk to public health should not be sold under any circumstances. In addition, he urged for an increase in food sampling to ensure the safety of food items being sold.

The DC also directed field staff to regularly monitor the quality of products such as milk, cheese, sweets, fruits and vegetables. He instructed that reports should be sent immediately to the concerned departments for further action. Kashyap assured the public that strict actions would be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, to maintain food safety standards.

In an effort to prevent foodborne illnesses, the DC mentioned that food samples would be collected during events such as weddings and other ceremonies held at hotels and resorts. He pointed out that large gatherings are often associated with a higher risk of food poisoning. Additionally, he announced that field staff would conduct inspections at small markets near Shimla, with a priority on checking shops located near schools. Kashyap appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and report any food-related issues or concerns to the administration.
