Shimla: Assurance given to revenue officials on seniority, promotion
Shimla, July 29
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi today assured the revenue officials (patwari and kanungo) that shifting them to state cadre will not affect their seniority, promotion and other benefits. The minister held a meeting with the delegation of patwaris and kanungos, who are resisting the decision to shift them to state cadre, to discuss their apprehensions.
Opportunities to get promoted
Patwaris and kanungos will continue to have opportunities to get promoted to the post of Naib Tehsildar and Tehsildar. — Jagat Singh Negi, Revenue minister
Negi clarified that the decision had been taken to maintain uniformity without making any changes or amendments in their recruitment and promotion rules. “Patwaris and kanungos would continue to have the opportunities to get promoted to the post of Naib Tehsildar and Tehsildar. Also, the change will allow patwaris and kanungo posted in other districts to serve in their home districts, which would enhance their work-life balance,” the minister said.
Negi said that the decision to convert the district cadre of patwaris and kanungo into the state cadre was made in public interest. “The government received representations from people in this regard, and the decision was focused on the welfare of people at large,” he said.
Negi emphasized that most government services now fall under the state cadre, and the recent strike by kanungo and patwaris has caused inconvenience to the public.
