In a major feat, ‘Billiyan Batiyati Hai’, a story by renowned writer from Shimla S.R. Harnot, has been included in the Bachelors of Arts (BA) curriculum of CKT Autonomous College, Panvel, under the University of Mumbai.
The story explores the social, political, religious, and cultural milieu of Himachal Pradesh. The story was first published in 2002 in Harnot’s famous story collection ‘Darosh and other stories’, which was published by Aadhar Prakashan.
In 2003, this collection also received the International Indu Sharma Katha Samman, a literary award that is given by the Indu Sharma Memorial Trust at London, United Kingdom. The collection has also received the award of Himachal Sahitya Akademi.
The story has also been translated in English as ‘Cats Talk’ and was published by Cambridge Scholar Press, London.
It has also been translated in many regional languages of the country. Vandana Agrahari, a student at Mumbai University, is also doing her PhD on Harnot’s literature.
Born at Chanavag village in Shimla district in 1955, Harnot is a story writer and a novelist who has been conferred with various literary awards.
