Shimla civic body court to decide ‘illegal construction’ in Sanjauli mosque

The fate of illegal construction at a religious place belonging to a particular community will be decided in the Municipal Commissioner’s court. The case has been scheduled to be heard on September 7 in which it will be decided whether the ‘unauthorised construction’ should be demolished or not.

According to the corporation, there is an alleged unauthorised construction inside the building of a religious place that is located in Sanjauli. The case is contested by the Waqf Board.

The Shimla Municipal Commissioner said that the hearing of the case had been scheduled in the Commissioner’s court in which further decision regarding the unauthorised construction would be taken. “All the reports regarding the case have been sought and further decision will be taken on Saturday,” he said.

The matter came to light when local residents of Sanjauli and nearby areas staged a protest on September 1 against the “illegal construction” within a mosque in a residential locality. During the protest, the people raised slogans and demanded immediate demolition of the mosque. The locals alleged that several floors of the mosque were constructed illegaly within a short span of time.

However, the protest was triggered after a scuffle between some individuals of two communities, in which one local resident was hurt.

Meanwhile, Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh said, “It was not a question about any particular community or religion but it is a matter of unauthorised construction.”
