Shimla DC bans public meetings at 10 locations in city

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap issued an order under Section 6 of the Punjab State Security Act, 1953, exercising the powers vested in him to maintain public order in Shimla and has prohibited organising public meetings, holding demonstrations, taking out processions or rallies, raising slogans, playing bands and carrying objects that can be used as weapons with criminal intent at 10 locations for the next two months with immediate effect.

These include the stretch from Chhota Shimla to The Ridge and Kennedy House, within a 150-metre radius from Rendezvous Restaurant to Rivoli Cinema, from Scandal Point to Kali Bari Temple, from Chhota Shimla Gurdwara to Link Road leading towards Kasumpti Road, from Chhota Shimla Chowk via Raj Bhavan to Oak Over, from Chhota Shimla Gurdwara to Satti Stairs and the pedestrian path leading towards Kasumpti Road, from Cart Road to Majitha House Link Road, from AG Office to Cart Road, from CPWD Office to Chaura Maidan and from the police post above the DC Office towards Lower Bazaar within 50 metres.

However, these orders will not be applicable for police, paramilitary or military personnel performing their official duties. The DC said that violating these orders will be a punishable offence and stern action will be taken against those who will defy these orders.
